What is Bitcoin / Ethereum Dominance?
Bitcoin / Ethereum dominance measures the change of Bitcoin's / Ethereum's market capitalization compared to the whole cryptocurrency market capitalization. The dominance chart can be used to identify trends in the cryptocurrency market. When the dominance of large cryptocurrencies (such as BTC, ETH) is rising, altcoins are losing value compared to large coins. When the dominance of large cryptocurrencies is on a downtrend, altcoins are gaining value compared to large coins.
Often, it is a good idea to hold Bitcoin (or Ethereum) when their dominance is in an uptrend and hold altcoins when their dominance is in a downtrend.
How is Bitcoin / Ethereum Dominance Calculated?
Bitcoin and Ethereum dominance is calculated by taking the whole cryptocurrency market capitalization and dividing it by Bitcoin's (or Ethereum's) market capitalization. Data is updated every hour.
